Is Preventive Dentistry in Auburn Your Path To Better Oral Hygiene?
Look, we all have incredibly busy lives. From the kids’ soccer games to the PTA meetings, to the late nights at the office…face it, we’re busy.
With large parts of the US population struggling to manage their weight, folks are also having difficulty with many common oral health problems, such as gingivitis, receding gums, sensitive teeth, oral thrush, and one of the most common, bad breath.
If any of us were asked if we’d prefer to do general maintenance of the teeth we have or be forced to fork out tens of thousands for major surgery or extensive restorative dental care, or a dental emergency of any kind, the answer is unanimous.
We’d all prefer to take care of what we have!
However, like many in the US, we’ve allowed our busy schedules to get the best of us and as it has affected our overall weight and health, our schedules are now adversely affecting our overall oral health.
The Preventive Dentistry Approach
As you’d expect, any type of preventive dental care starts at home. From your diet, to your lack of alcohol and tabaco usage to regular brushings and flossing.
Sugar in the diet is the arch enemy of oral healthcare and all the more reason for an additional brushing throughout the day to eliminate the possibility of tooth decay setting in.
When we don’t brush, plaque begins to build up. Plaque-producing bacteria and it is this bacteria that actually starts the tooth decay process.
So, by taking those few extra minutes per day to ensure we brush at least two times per day, floss at least once per day and ensure that IF we are engaging in sugary foods, that we have our toothbrush near, we’re taking steps to greatly reduce the likelihood of needing to find a 24 hour emergency dentist to deal with an infected tooth.
In addition to the steps we can take from our home and office, it’s important that we get in to get our semi-annual teeth cleanings. This ensures that hard to get at plaque is removed, further reducing the chance of emergency dental care.
What Causes Bad Breath
One of the earliest warning signs of poor oral hygiene is bad breath. Otherwise known as halitosis, bad breath can be caused an infected tooth, or can be caused by dry mouth, potential creating oral thrush, as well as a poor diet or any number of additional causes. Bad breath remedies are 100% dependent on the cause of the bad breath itself.
Dry mouth treatment is important as it produces the necessary saliva to battle all forms of bacteria in the mouth.
Many medications that American’s take have been known to be the initial cause of dry mouth. If you are one that is experiencing this condition, it’s important that you take measures to remedy this situation as quickly as possible.
We strongly encourage you to visit us if you are feeling that you are genuinely experiencing dry mouth, as the treatment will depend on the reason for the dry mouth itself.
Oral Thrush Treatment
Oral thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth. This smells bad, as you might imagine. A simple 10-14 day prescription will generally eliminate most thrush conditions. However, in certain more severe cases, other steps need to be taken. You need to see a dentist to solve this condition.
Home Remedy for a Toothache
Home remedies for a toothache are vast. From gargling with salt water for tooth pain relief, to soaking a cotton ball in vanilla extract. While the objective of any home remedy for toothache relief is to simply feel better, we strongly recommend that the best remedy is to visit us immediately.
