Gingivitis & Periodontal Disease Information in Miami Beach

Periodontal disease is a development of plaque, tartar, and an overall bacteria buildup in between the gums and your teeth. It is a slow. gradual formation that takes months and years.

periodontal diseaseThe gum’s main purpose is to support the teeth and act as an intermediary between tooth and jawbone. The development of gum disease can be an issue because it causes damage to the gums and the bone supporting your teeth.

The first stage of the disease is gingivitis. If diagnosed early, gingivitis treatment is a simple as a routine teeth cleaning from a dental hygienist. They are nonsurgical and are done in one visit. From this point forward you will have to adopt and maintain strict hygienic standards for yourself.

Symptoms can include: sensitivity while eating, bleeding gums, and inflamed and swollen gums. Treatment for bleeding gums needs to be fixed from the root cause, which is that the gum pockets are full of tartar and bacteria.

We work with all types of dental insurance for seniors in order to relieve pain and complications from gingivitis.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction Process

Wisdom teeth can be extracted for several reasons. In young adults it is often preventative care in order to reduce the impaction of the growing molars. In most situations the procedure can be done in your general dentist office and does not require an emergency dentist. These procedures can be partly covered if you have a dental health plan.

A local anesthetic is used to numb the area surrounding the incoming molars. Sedation dentistry can also be used, and this is often the case if all 4 are being removed.

Once the gum tissue is open, the tooth and necessary bone will be removed from the jaw, all to be covered up again with stitches. We use stitches that dissolve after a few days. We highly suggest this process for those families who have children with orthodontic works, as this will avoid any movement of teeth after their braces have formed a perfect alignment.

As part of our preventive practice, we show you methods to avoid tooth decay, which is most often cause for a toothache.

Other not so gradual causes of toothache can be:

  • Tooth and gum infection
  • Gum disease
  • Biting habits
  • The grinding of teeth
  • External damage to the teeth

When you have the desire to stop toothache pain, we suggest the following strategies:

  1. Rinse the mouth out with salt dissolved in warm water
  2. Take a pain reliever that you buy over-the-counter, should contain ibuprofen

Another toothache remedy might be suggested by our dental practitioners if we sense that your issue is due to a greater underlying cause.

gingivitisThe greater underlying cause for our focus on preventive dental care is that nearly all of the procedures that we undertake in our dental office can be prevented with good dental habits.

No matter your age we make it our focus to train you to be at two care specialist and take responsibility of your own dental care into your own hands.
