An Active Preventive Dental Program in Sugar Land Will Save You Thousands of Dollars
We have busy lives. From the moment we wake up in the morning to the time we set are alarm at night to start it all over again the next day.
When we roll out of bed, we put on our running shoes to go for that 30 minute morning jog. As we eat throughout the day, we watch our caloric intake, paying attention to our weight and the effort we are making to stay away from any potential danger.
We maintain our scheduled meetings with our doctor to ensure that everything is where it should be and that everything is operating correctly.
While most of America has really taken charge of their physical health, there is still a large percentage of the population that doesn’t put the same amount of effort into their oral health.
However, would it surprise you to learn that while oral health is not the killer that other forms of health-related illnesses are, there are many diseases that can actually originate via poor oral healthcare, such as the following:
- Dementia
- Respiratory Infections
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Diabetic Complications
In every case in the conditions outlined above, gum disease is the culprit and the gateway from which these diseases and conditions make their way into our lives. Once the gums become infected, they open the door to bacteria to quickly enter the bloodstream and to affect the rest of the body.
Periodontal Disease and the Onset of Serious Disease
When we talk to patients, most don’t understand the level of seriousness required to ensure that we do everything possible to prevent any form of gum disease. As outlined above, the gums serve as a gateway for bacteria and infection to enter the bloodstream and wreak havoc on our system.
Gum disease generally begins with a simple form of gingivitis. So, the simple question is, “Can gingivitis be cured?” The clear answer is, “Absolutely, yes, and quite easily.”
Look, gingivitis is the buildup of bacteria that we call plaque. Once the build-up resides on the teeth for a period of time, it becomes hard and turns into what we refer to as tartar. Once the tartar has formed, this then begins to irritate the base of the gums, forming the beginnings of gingivitis.
However, by simply brushing 2 times per day as well as flossing at least 1 time per day as well as rinsing with mouthwash, you can reverse the effects of gingivitis quite quickly, in many cases within a week. Yes, that fast.
Emergency Dental Care When You Just Can’t Bare the Pain
When a dental emergency occurs, you want to know where to go so that you can relieve the pain as quickly as possible. We’d strongly recommend that you don’t wait until an emergency happens. If you are a patient of ours, we’ll give you a clear outline of exactly what to do and where to go, but if you are not yet a patient, you need to have a plan.
What about an emergency for one of your children? Are they currently under the care of a pediatric dentist? If they are, you should coordinate a plan for when emergencies do arise.
Even the best dental plans have some pretty restrictive clauses of how dental emergencies are paid for, so ensure that you are aware of how this is dealt with by your insurance company.
As you review individual dental plans, make sure to ask all of the relevant questions that pertain to both Preventive Dentistry as well as what happens in the case of emergency.
You will quickly learn that most dental insurance plans strongly reward proactive preventive dental plans, while somewhat penalizing those that have an emergency.
Now, if you require tooth pain relief and you have not been able to get in touch with a dentist, we recommend you take a cooled peppermint tea bag and apply it to the area where you are experiencing pain. This should provide you with some temporary relief while you try to get in touch with a dentist.
Teeth Cleaning as a Fundamental Aspect of Preventive Dentistry
Should you become a patient of ours, immediately after your initial consultation, where we do a complete and thorough exam, we will outline a path to oral health that you can rely on and trust to take care of your teeth for years to come.
With that said, semi-annual teeth cleaning is a foundational and fundamental aspect to oral health care and prevents you from requiring many of the other forms of bad breath remedies that are required by those that don’t have their teeth cleaned regularly.
As we’ve described above, bacteria turns into tartar, and tartar is the culprit that is the genesis to gingivitis… with gingivitis being the beginning of more severe gum and mouth diseases.
With semi-annual exams and cleanings, we ensure that we are able to catch everything before it turns into a more serious condition. We’re able to identify any form of tooth decay or root abscess. We’re able to remove all of the tartar, and we’re able to see if your gums are behaving properly.
Preventive dentistry is more than just ensuring you make it to your semi-annual appointment, it’s taking your oral healthcare to heart, ensuring that you are brushing every morning and night. It’s ensuring that you are flossing at least once per day. It’s taking a proactive role to ensure you have your original teeth for your entire life.
At this point, we’d ask you to go over to our About Us page to learn more about what we recommend when choosing a new dentist as well as to schedule your initial consultation. This will give us an opportunity to meet and to show you how we have served many others within the Sugar Land community for years. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
